William L. Healy, MD

We are excited to have Dr. William L. Healy as the 2025 Presidential Guest Speaker.

Dr. Healy is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine. He was born in Boston and graduated from Amherst College in 1974. Dr. Healy attended medical school at SUNY - Downstate, and completed his orthopaedic residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by an AO/ASIF Adult Reconstruction Fellowship in Austria. After completing his training, he returned to Massachusetts and joined Lahey Clinic, specializing in Adult Reconstruction for the next 28 years, and served as Orthopaedic Surgery Chair from 1991-2012.

Dr. Healy's research interests center around total joint arthroplasty with a focus on surgical technique, implant design and patient outcomes, as well as socioeconomic issues in orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic education. With more than 160 peer reviewed publications, his contributions to the field will continue to foster orthopaedic research and education in the future. Dr. Healy's numerous awards include the Robert E. Leach Orthopaedic Teaching Award from Boston University, AAHKS' Lawrence Dorr Award, the Arthritis Foundation Physician Achievement Award, the Lahey Clinic Research Award, the Boston University Distinguished Service Award, and the Irish American Orthopaedic Society's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Beginning in 2000, Dr. Healy volunteered for the Ouimet Scholarship Fund, which awards millions of dollars in need-based college scholarships each year, serving on the Board from 2010 to present. In 2022, he and his wife Angela created the Bill & Angela Healy Healthcare Scholarship, awarded annually to a Ouimet scholar pursuing a career in healthcare.

An avid golfer, Dr. Healy has written a series of golf history books on courses across Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Ireland.
